A very correct and principled position on your part. Bob Malecki Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit MIM, The "New Flag" and NY Transfer News Collective [The following note was sent to the Maoist Internationalist Movement in response to their announcement (reproduced below) that they were leaving NY Transfer. Background: Last spring, MIM began a public campaign accusing the New Flag and lquispe@nyxfer.blythe.org of being police agents of Fujimori. This followed several months of private allegations from them against the New Flag, which we looked into. We have refused to deny access to our services to the New Flag, and apparently MIM feels that this is a "middle ground" position, and hence it is liberalism for them to remain on our system. We believe that MIM and many other activists in this ideological firefight have been hoodwinked by a COINTELPRO-style disinformation campaign designed to do exactly what it has accomplished: throw the anti-Fujimori forces into disarray, sow dissension and mistrust, and disrupt the work of Peruvian revolutionaries. We won't play the game. -- NY Transfer] Announcement Received from MIM on Nov 3, 1996: THE MAOIST INTERNATIONALIST MOVEMENT CHANGES INTERNET ADDRESSES Readers of the Marxism List, MIM Notes or Maoist Sojourner will know that MIM and others have been exposing a police plot to disrupt the work of the Communist Party of Peru (PCP, "Sendero Luminoso" in the bourgeois press), its supporters, and its potential supporters. The operation goes under various names, including "MPP-USA (Peru People's Movement, USA)," "The New Flag/La Nueva Bandera," "Luis Quispe" and "Marcelina Ccorimanya." Because of Agent Quispe's association with New York Transfer, including a Web site fraudulently called 'The People's War in Peru,' and an e-mail account on that server, MIM's past endorsements of New York Transfer as a resource for the oppressed objectively lent legitimacy to Agent Quispe and his phony 'MPP-USA.' MIM will no longer lend legitimacy to Agent Quispe in this way. You can now reach MIM at: mim@mim.org Change your bookmarks! Our web site has moved to: http://www.etext.org/Politics/MIM If you would like more information about the Quispe plot and MIM's documented exposure, send us email to receive one article and information about how to get more. BOX 3576 ANN ARBOR MI 48106 # # ### # # ---- mim@nyxfer.blythe.org ----- NY Transfer responds (Nov 4, 1996): Dear MIM: We're sorry to learn of your decision to move your electronic operation elsewhere. Frankly, we think your position that our nonsectarian access policy consitutes endorsement of any of NY Transfer's member groups is absurd -- as you well know, our slogan is "NY Transfer Follows NO Party Line." We do wonder how you can reconcile [your position] with your decision to move to etext, with its very eclectic membership of groups. Of course, etext's services are free, we believe. Perhaps it's okay in your value system to share access on the same server with political enemies as long as you don't pay for it. In any case, we'll be very sorry to see you go. Your use of the Internet has been a model for many other activists (including lquispe and the New Flag -- a group we originally welcomed to NY Transfer partly because of your referral and recommendation). We're disappointed that your political differences with this group have led you to move to another server, but we certainly understand your desire to cease any activity that you consider to be "liberalism." We are also sure you understand our position: to deny access to any other group because MIM disapproves of them would be completely contrary to our nonsectarian policy. Because of our long-standing relationship with MIM we did not dismiss lightly your allegations about Lquispe and the New Flag, but investigated them seriously, both here and abroad. We were unable to find any evidence that supports your charges. On the contrary, we found the actions and accusations of some people (not MIM) who joined in the anti-quispe campaign to be unethical, disreputable and thoroughly dishonest. We have reached our conclusions, and you are free to reject them. But NY Transfer cannot ever allow any one group, MIM included, to dictate who will be permitted access on our system. Such an expectation on your part is surprising and disappointing; it is also inappropriately authoritarian and completely unacceptable to us. We were not aware that MIM considers itself a "Peruvian exile" organization. We have always thought of you as a homegrown Amerikan radical movement. But regardless, far from choosing a "middle ground" between two groups, our policy has remained the same for years, and is quite uncompromising: we will not censor our members, restrict their access because of their political views, or engage in their sectarian squabbles, under any circumstances! Be assured that now and in the future, we will not hesitate to deal promptly with any threat if we believe a member of NY Transfer is a police agent, a provocateur, or attempting to do harm to our system or our Collective. We are truly sorry you are leaving NY Transfer and we hope you enjoy the same care, attention, and excellence of service on etext that we have always tried to provide at NY Transfer. Best of luck to you. Dear everybody, It is a bit after eight in the morning here and i spent most of the night until 4 am watching the TWO! nationalised election watches here in Sweden. Really fucking tired, so this will be very sporadic and stuck together like clue, however would like to present some thoughts while they are still fresh and some reflections on this stuff. Just the fact that two election watches on the elections in the states on Swedish TV says reams about Sweden in itself who had almost completely frozen diplomatic relations with the United States during the war in Vietnam. One of the watches was televised direct from Times Square in New York City. And the other was based here in Sweden with the former Social Democratic prime minister, Ingvar Carlsson as the main guest and the second guest was the American ambassor in Stockholm and boyhood friend of Bill Clinton. One of the first observations which I found very interesting was the fact that Bob Dole is one of the last of the pre second world war, second world war and cold war generation to run in elections. And the other is that Bill Clinton was clearly a candidate of and for the post war generation and not in the least the post war middle class and a political line in the bottom which says; Don,t rock the boat!, for us and the great life we have lived. There was an interesting discussion about this in fact. One side claiming that Dole and what he represents is getting old and are in decline, where as the middle class and Bill Clinton are on the rise. If one were to look at the developments in the states, Blair in England, and the Social Democracy in Sweden. What was interesting was the fact that some people saw a real danger that the World War Two generation who lived through the Nazis and the cold war were dying off because they embodied the experience of that struggle, where as the new middle class post war generation of spoiled brats have not and thus in the future could mean a new rise in facism or other dangers. etc. Between reports from CBS and CNN on the elections. Reports were steadly coming in about Jeltsin's operation and his condition! Talk about black tuesday! Fuck how depressing. At the same time reports on the present Social Democratic Prime minister being in China and praising the Chinese for being "a stable country in development"...Which has caused and outrage here at least on the political surface. Above this the subject was NATO,the UN, America's role in Europe the next four years, Nafta, the far east being really important. (What a joke) And if the republican revolution would be roled back or not. And interesting angle on the role of "talk radio" was new to me in regards to the right wing fundementalists and pubs. Africa was just mentioned in bypassing! I do not believe in conspiracy theories, however I got the distinct feeling that at least from a Swedish standpoint a gigantic suck of relieve could be heard by 2am Swedish time when it became clear that Clinton had won. Ingvar Carlsson had a reflection about Kennedy at this point saying that he thought Kennedy better then Clinton but.. One of the important discussions was around who would be the new foreign minister. Where Holbrooke appears to be the darling and favorite candidate because of his new role in Swedish politics of being Clinton,s special representative on the Baltic Sea Counsil. It appears to me that some conclusions at least from here can be drawn at least as i see it.(This appears to be the most important issue for Swedish Social Democracy) and their new found friend Holbrooke and Clinton! The idea that Clinton gives this post to a republican, as a gesture of appeasement, was not popular at all. The big question about the dominance of the middle class in electoral politics at this point appears to be absolutely clear. Naturally this trend will last only as long as the middle class feels secure. And this is linked to the other key question. What is going on in the former Soviet Union. The extension of NATO to the east. At least from here being the key question. In fact the middle east was more of a parentisis the whole evening and Africa was hardly mentioned at all! This is interesting in that when I came here in the early seventies the "African liberation movements" stood in line at most of the Social Democratic and bougeois parties congresses! And the middle east was a big deal because of Dag Hammerskold nad the Social Democratic softness on the PLO. And with the Social Democratic prime minister of Sweden's visit to China and talk about stability makes it quite clear that the bottom line is the former Soviet Union, the health of Jeltsin, the extension of NATO, Sweden on the security counsil, The Baltic states and all the rest. Mainly about 800 million Russians armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons in a highly unstable situation being the key to politics in the near and distant future. Everything appears to turn around this one key issue. While at home appeasing the post war middle class and in the east saying to China such lovely things about stability. Interesting that Japan nor Germany are hardly mentioned. The present situation appears at least from here to be dominated about what is going to be done with the former Soviet Union. But also a real fear that America would pull out of Europe into isolationism as in the pre second world war before the new lines are drawn on the European charts. The Swedes more then ever think that the United States plays a stabilising role to the present situation. Ingvar Carlsson actually said the only *real* super power left in the world today.. (Ha Ha that,s what he thinks!) But the Chernoblys and the nuclear capabilities of the former Soviet Union are like a great big fucking ghost hanging over the heads of western leaders. And I doubt if everybody is exactly united about what should be done about this... In fact everybody was surprised that the question of the minorities and especially blacks appeared not to be and issue in the elections. But home grown consumer middleclass economics and security. Naturally the questions around healthcare being a key national issue. Another interesting thing was that there was no discussion about Germany or Japan other then in the sense of isolationism vs free trade. Lots of talk about how the Republican women went over in droves to the Clinton bandwagon. Thus the pubs had gone to far off the deep end with the Gentrich republican revolution and alienating many women who have rather newly in America stormed on to the political scene. The left-right discussion was interesting also. According to them Nader representing the left and the far right-the far right in the Republican party. The American people did not support either who represented extremes! WOW. The labor Party was not even mentioned by the way. Although the trade unions were in the sense that it was good that Clinton did not win big in congress forcing him to pay political debts to the trade unions for their economic support to his campaign. This is the short tired version! Only conclusion right now as a poor and working class guy and communist is perhaps I should go take a bottle of sleeping pills! But I will probably change my mind about that after getting some sleep. Besides as a communist one realises what this dependency on the middle class in the long run will mean. But I realize at least at this point why the left at least on Internet at this point looks like it does! Especially the new MI list and the discussions their. But also the almost desperate attempts from a lot of people to get as far away from Communist politics as possible. Hmmm, it must be the times or perhaps i was born at the wrong time along with millions of other poor and working class people. I think just now most about Russia and Africa also- so i guess i too am effected by living in Sweden. If you have any questions post them to the list or me. I will try to answer them after getting some much needed rest. My 11 year old just went off too school. Good Night or Good morning Bob Malecki Hi Bob, Just a few things that you missed. 1. Only thirty something percent of the people registered to vote did so. This is the lowest it has ever been in a presidential year. 2. Because blacks did not turn out for the election, we still have a Republican controlled House and Senate. This bodes ill for the poor since it was this control that enabled the welfare reform bill to pass. If not for Clinton's original veto of the bill it would have been much worse then it is. The Republicans wanted to eliminate school lunches and breakfasts, stop the Head Start programs, and a few other major and drastic alterations to welfare. The compromise bill that passed, while not perfect, is a lot better then it might have been. 3. As blacks become more affluent they have been becoming Republicans. They have theirs and they don't give a damn if anyone else get ahead or not. 4. California and (I think) Colorado passed a bill to eliminate all affirmative action programs. Also passing, last I heard, was the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes. And interesting angle >on the role of "talk radio" was new to me in regards to the right wing > fundamentalists and pubs. Africa was just mentioned in bypassing! Talk radio hosts include Rush Limbaugh who thinks Republicans are Gods. Ollie North, the Captain? who lied to a congressional committee about arms for Iran. G. Gordon Liddy who sounds a lot like you...was involved in Watergate and give instructions to shoot Federal Officers in the head Because they are probably wearing bullet proof vests. This is interesting in that when I came here in > the early seventies the "African liberation movements" stood in line at most > of the Social Democratic and bourgeois parties congresses! Because the blacks have not been turning out to vote they have been losing power steadily. If they once more became a voting block then their needs would be better met. In fact, in order to get more blacks involved, Clinton passed a bill that allowed you to register to vote at the same time you renewed your license plates. And since the weather across the US was almost perfect their lack of interest in the political process further dooms their future needs. Ingvar Carlsson actually >said the only *real* super power left in the world today.. (Ha Ha that,s > what he thinks!) I'm afraid he is correct unless you are counting China. Japan has all the money but no army. Russia can no longer afford the army and weapons as it did before. Now it has to worry about feeding it's people. Point of fact...Russia is more worried about an attack from China then the US is. > Another interesting thing was that there was no discussion about Germany or >Japan other then in the sense of isolationism vs free trade. > That is because Clinton is against isolationism....Dole appeared to be for it so it all depended upon the man not the issue. > Lots of talk about how the Republican women went over in droves to the > Clinton bandwagon. Wrong....The Republicans have alienated women especially in their treatment of Hillery Clinton whom they still plan on crucifying. Clinton is pro choice on the matter of abortion....Dole was set out declaring all abortions illegal. Clinton talked to women and worked for women's problems such as Head Start and school lunches and free immunization of all children.....Dole wanted to "save" money and abolish these things. > The left-right discussion was interesting also. According to them Nader >representing the left and the far right-the far right in the Republican >party. Ralph Nader is a public advocate. He has worked hard to make companies recall dangerous products. I cannot conceive of him being referred to as left. The labor Party was not even mentioned by the way. The other parties petitioned to be on the ballot of most of the states. The Labor Party did not therefore they would be represented only as a write-in vote. Although the trade >unions were in the sense that it was good that Clinton did not win big in >congress forcing him to pay political debts to the trade unions for their >economic support to his campaign. Because he did not win big he will not have the power to properly reward them. If he had obtained a Democratic House and Senate he would have been in a position to thank them properly. > > This is the short tired version! Only conclusion right now as a poor and >working class guy and communist is perhaps I should go take a bottle of >sleeping pills! 100 aspirin will do the job just as well. Sleep well gray knight, -------------------------------------------------------- DOWN WITH PKK/DHKP POPULAR FRONTS! (DECLARATION) NEJ TO A NEW MULLAH REVOLUTION LIKE IN IRAN! FOR WORKING CLASS INDEPENDENCE! FOR THE RIGHT TO SELF DETERMINATION FOR THE KURDS! (INCLUDING THE RIGHT TO BUILD THEIR OWN STATE! In fact the PKK/DHKP statement is a call for a popular front of the classical Stalinist order. There is nothing revolutionary about it and in fact can only lead to new bloody defeats for the Turkish Proletariat! This is exactly the kind of front that the Stalinists created in Iran! And look what it got them. Now these organisations are preparing the way for a mullah takeover in Turkey and if the Mullahs don,t take power then it will be a wing of the Turkish bougeoisie that will take over. And not the working class and their natuall allies the urban poor! It seems as if the Stalinists NEVER learn by their mistakes and once again are preparing a bloodbath for the Turkish Proletariat. And along the lines of the "Iranian Revolution"! Incredible! Against this fake "Revolutionary" front! It is nothing other then the bankrupt politics of the Stalinist stage theory of revolution and uniting all of the "proggressive" forces against those who at present are in power. Once again the Stalinist are heading down the road of betraying the Proletariat! The only thing that can come out of this kind of fake "revolutionary" front is either a fundementalist mullah dictatorship or a liberal bougeois dictarorship. Communists fight not to give power to the Mullahs or the liberal bougeoisie but for poor and working class power! Independently of all bougeois and "progressive" medevil forces.. Only a party that can mobilise the working class independently of all bougeois forces and especially the Mullahs can show the way forward. With a revolutionary program that takes the working class independently from where they find themselves today to the dictatorship of the proletriat. There naturall allies in this struggle could and should be the urban poor. But it is ONLY the working class that has the Social power to *really* change things. Against popular front politics! No new Iranian Revolution in Turkey! Down with the popular front. Break with the politics of Stalinism! They are taking down the road of a new blood bath! FOR WORKING CLASS INDEPENDENCE! FOR THE RIGHT TO SELF DETERMINATION FOR THE KURDS! (INCLUDING THE RIGHT TO BUILD THEIR OWN STATE!
