AT&T Raises Rates Another 6 Percent

In order to cover costs for customer service and enhancements in its phone network AT&T announced it would raise basic long-distance rates by 5.9%.

Also mentioned was boosting profits.

Call rates are proposed to increase as follows:

international calls +4.8%
calling cards +5%
operator assisted calls +2.6%
