United States Sentencing CommissionRe: Amendment #44, change in guideline range for 18 USC 1957
To whom it may concern:
Just a quick note to let you know that I applaud this proposed Amendment Number 44, the change in sentences for persons convicted of money laundering.
I am hoping that you will suggest that the amendment be retroactive so that persons who received unfairly enhanced sentences can be re-sentenced to a term of imprisonment consistent with the underlying crime.
The Commission must suggest that the amendment be retroactive to be consistent with the whole purpose of the Sentencing Guidelines -- fairness and truth in sentencing. Failure to make the changes retroactive will result in more disparity.
